Let's explore together dads' fears of breastfeeding
Dads are sometimes afraid when moms decide to breastfeed, and perhaps this is normal in today's society, as we lack a lot of information on the subject.
This fear can come from several sources:
- the fear of not being involved enough in their child's feeding,
- the fear of not being able to help the mother with breastfeeding (anxiety about the unknown),
- or even the fear of not feeling included in this moment of connection between mother and baby (feeling of exclusion).

To better understand this fear, I interviewed several dads who shared their stories and feelings :
Alexandre, a young father of two, confides: "At first, I was a little afraid of feeling excluded from this special moment between my wife and my child. But I realized that breastfeeding was also an opportunity for me to participate by helping my wife in her daily life and creating strong bonds with my baby."
Maxime, father of a little girl, adds: "At first, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to support my wife during her breastfeeding. But after talking to health professionals and learning more about the subject, I realized that my role was precisely to be there and offer my support to my wife."
These stories show that to help overcome dads' fear of breastfeeding, it is important to communicate openly and honestly with them, and that dads' fear of breastfeeding is not insurmountable . By talking openly, getting informed, and getting involved, dads can feel less excluded and more confident in their role as parents.
Encourage them to participate in other caregiving activities, such as bathing, changing diapers, or cuddling, which will also strengthen their bond with their baby.
Reassure them that their support and presence are essential for the well-being of the entire family. Involve them in the process by allowing them to provide help and support, whether it's bringing you water while breastfeeding, comforting the baby after feeding, or taking care of you while you care for your child.

It is therefore essential for fathers to take an active part in their child's breastfeeding, whether by supporting the mother, participating in daily tasks related to breastfeeding, or simply by creating moments of complicity with their child.
Offering support and presence is a way to strengthen family bonds and fully participate in your child's education.
"Dear dads, you have a vital role to play in supporting breastfeeding. Be the beacon that guides and encourages the mother throughout this beautiful journey."
